Working with The Color Blue and The Throat Chakra

Only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth, and that is not speaking it. – Naomi Wolf

Blue is the color of the clear sky, the sea, cornflowers, irises, of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality.of trust, peace, order and loyalty, of  sapphires. blue topaz and lapis lazuli.  Blue comes in so many shades and tones.  Today at the beach I could see the clear blues of the sky, the shades of aqua and turquoise of the water.

Blue is the color of the fifth chakra, our throat chakra and communication centre.  The Throat Chakra is all about communication  ans self-expression ~ expressing our inner truth, ourselves and our creativity. It’s the energy centre from which we speak about the whispers of our heart,  our desires, our wants and our ideas.  When our throat is open we feel free to speak our truth and we feel good.  Yes the vibes are high and happy!  I am following my intuition too.

Then there are the blues, when we get down in the dumps. I had one of those days yesterday and there was a simple reason: I was struggling to get some promotion out for my Etsy store  using Pitch Engine. Firstly there was a new interface and secondly I don’t find writing PR copy a joy. So I struggled away – silly Suzie- until Des asked what was going on- he picked up my vibes, yes the negative ones. If I had asked him for help with this it would have been completed much soon and without the stress.

What I had done again was not asked for help.  Not asking for help, saying yes when we really wanted to say no, and vice versa means we are not speaking our truth. Time to work on opening the throat chakra.

Here are 7 ways I have found that help in opening the throat chakra:

I write in my journal. I might ask myself a question like : What do I need to know now to speak my truth? Then allow the words to flow.

Sing and/or chant- join in the Free 21 Day Mantra Meditation

Say no without justifying why to something that you don’t want to do (or yes, to something that you do)

Ask for help, start with something simple ~ let go of the independent streak

Do the Happiness Breath– Sit on a chair and breath in deeply and as you exhale laugh out the breath as you bend forward.

Create a vision board with images of how you see yourself being and what you are doing when your throat chakra is open

 Use Affirmations:

What do you do on a daily basis to keep your Throat Chakra open ?

Let your voice be heard!

  1. I sometimes do toning (ahh sound) to open up my throat chakra. The openness of my 5th chakra has a lot to do with how my 3rd and 4th chakras are. So when I tone the ‘ahh’ sound, I know that that opens up my heart chakra which supports my throat chakra. Besides this, having the courage to speak up and communicate to others what is important to me is a great practice for keeping the throat chakra open.

  2. Such a great post! I love chanting when I need to open and clear my throat chakra. It helps a lot before I need to speak in front of others or know that I will be telling someone NO.

  3. My throat chakra has definitely been a doozy to work with and allow healing to come through. I think recently, starting Gaia Blooming really gave me a new voice in the world!

  4. Blue, in nature and everywhere else is a favorite color. I have blue in my bedroom and there is no shade of blue I don’t like. Am on a journey in this lifetime to speak my truth, sometimes it is a challenge. More and more I begin to separate and accept the beauty of speaking out and being real, and being ok with it. Journaling, walking in nature, grounding and connecting to source are what help me daily.

  5. Hi Suzie,
I love how you connected the communication chakra to what happened to you the other day and also to “feeling blue” in general. It just confirms this notion of us being one with the universe. And on a lighter note, I love light pink and hyacinth blue (periwinkle is it)? These 2 colors make me so happy at all times! 🙂

  6. I relate deeply to the color blue, and I have blue eyes. As a child, my mother dressed me in blue. But in many ways I could not express myself fully as a child (at least not in words), so perhaps I need to upgrade my blue experience! For me, writing is one of the most powerful ways to have my true voice, whether or not others see it. I am also reacquainting myself with various forms of art (interestingly, something I did a lot of as a child). I will be sure to bring lots of different blues into my life and work.

  7. Lovely post, Suzie! I enjoyed your slideshow very much! Seven ways that open the throat chakra – I must overcome saying no. Gosh, I just don’t know why, every time I think I am close, I sucker myself into something I don’t want to do, but feel bad to say no, to.

Thank you. Your post spoke to my heart today. But then, your posts always do. So uplifting! Love you! Namaste, Vidya

  8. Hum Suzie – yes, I see that not asking for help, and getting stressed and saying yes when we mean no are not great – and as you explain the Chakra’s, I see the relevance. I am learning to share and speak to others – so this is a beginning 🙂

    1. Hi Jacs,
We all have to start somewhere in the process of being true to ourself and learning to listen for what feels good. Learning to ask for help has been a struggle for me- MS Independence!
Great you are beginning just take small steps and make it a daily habit

  9. Hi Suzie,
When I’m feeling boxed in or weighted down, I write. The first paragraphs are cathartic. I make myself write and write and write until I find gratitude somewhere in the situation. That’s when my communications open up and I feel like myself again and good ideas can flow.

  10. Hi Suzie,

I know it may sound silly but drinking lots of water helps me keep open here and not “over work” my throat. I do a lot of talking in my work so water and herbal teas are great! I am a very open “talker” type person so sometimes I just take time to be silent and really listen inside before speaking again. Hehe!!

    1. Hi Jen,
That is not something I would have thought of- i now all about the benefits of drinking water. It does make sense. Yes silence and listening to our inner wisdom opens up the flow 🙂
