letting go

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.– Tao Te Ching

Today’s post was inspired by drawing the card Let Your Past Go from The Daily Guidance from Your Angels Deck and then seeing the  quote from Mike Dooley on Facebook. I then shared it on Twitter and Erica Ross-Kreiger said it was just what she needed. When I commented on the synchronicity and mentioned that I might write my blog post on the topic she said she was looking forward to reading it.

The Universe TUT

To move forward in any area of our life we have to let go and sometimes what we have to let go of is not always obvious.

This Easter weekend Des and I are doing a big cleaning, clearing and letting go of physical stuff as we are ready for change.  I am a bower bird and keep things just in case. I have boxes of fabric too from my textile art business, that one day……….. My computer is another just in case I might need it, storage place too.

For clearing the physical stuff  I have made charts so we can check off what we have done and both get a sense of satisfaction as well as celebrating being a step closer to our dream of living closer to the beach. I want to be able to walk to the beach. I have yet to make chart for what stuff letting go of from the computer and in the cloud, that will be freeing too.

It’s not only the physical stuff that can block the abundance flow and stop you moving forward. Your memories, your thoughts and often a limiting belief can be what holds you back. This can stop you sharing your gifts with the world too.

We can also get caught up in story. When this happens I find it best to journal, ask those whispers of my heart what and why I am limiting myself. what is it that when i let it go will allow me to move forward?

Having a coach or mentor helps too.  Or even ask a close friend or you partner. You might be surprised at the response you get. I was!

I am working through a series of exercises to allow me to move from my past to my future with joy.

  1. Great post Suzie. What I need to let go of right now is wanting to get something done by a deadline and not having the resources to do it! So I’m assuming that not making this (self-imposed) deadline is fine and will wait until (both) my techie people are available again. Thanks for inviting me to play again by letting go 🙂

    1. Thanks Jane deadlines are funny things- sometimes they drive me and I get a wonderful sense of completion and other times I think they limit me. I hear myself saying the other day I need more deadlines ( external) to move forward.
Have fun playing at letting go. ♡♡♡

  2. This is what I loved about your post – “We must be willing to let go of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. – Joseph Campbell”
It’s very serendipitous I came across your site, and I plan to book mark it and come back.

  3. Suzie, the visual of your chart is very helpful. I can attest to physical clutter causing interference and making it hard to move forward. Your post was a great message and wonderful reminder to make sure we always continue to move forward! Nicely done.

  4. I loved this post! There is something magical about letting go and moving ahead in life. I used to be the kind of person who lived in the past and now I make small attempts at letting go of things that are not meant to be. It takes time, but once you feel the energies after you let go of things, your life changes.

    1. Pratibha thank you your comment reassures me. I like the small attempts at letting go and you are right , new energies do come and a feeling of lightness,

  5. This is so true Suzie…being willing to let go, renew and refresh is a wonderful way to clear the path for our spirit to soar. And we can’t fly high with chains of the past around our ankles.

Your chart is such a simple and brilliant idea. No surprise there miss creativity herself. 🙂

  6. Thank you Suzie for the reminder.

I recently did some physical letting go… threw away a pile of unncessary items that somehow had made it onto the “just in case” list. Now, I can proudly say that the only things in my house are those that have a right to be there. And the free space, such a joy.

As for the emotional clutter, that is a never ending process. But I am getting there. I have been practicing deleting unnecessary thoughts and worries as soon as they show their heads and I must say it has left me happier. I used to be a chronic “worrrier”, so this practice has made a hell of a difference for me.

    Thank you once again. 🙂

    1. I love that you only have things that bring you joy and have a right to be there. Today i feel freer and more stuff will go.
Love the concept of deleting thoughts- reminds me of an exercise I learned from Doreen Virtue. CANCEL CLEAR DELETE. and just yesterday read an a great review about a decluttering book form Marie Kondo : The Life changing Magic of Decluttering. and she suggests that you ask yourself does This spark Joy? and then give gratitude for what you are throwing out.- interesting

  7. I have to admit I believe in selective memory storage. I am blessed with far too many wonderful memories to file them away completely so I have set them aside to warm me when I can use an extra smile. The other stuff, and there’s been plenty of it along the way, I have never had a problem letting go of. I like all of your quotations, but especially the one by Manin Morrissey because this has happened to me and even to friends. In fact I remember one couple in particular who had tried to get pregnant for years until they finally gave up and began the adoption process. Two months after they brought their newly adopted daughter home she found out she was pregnant. What a lovely miracle 🙂

    1. Thanks Marty, yes I too have so many wonderful memories that I relish and warm my heart. Just recently I seem to have been holding onto both too much physical stuff. I have to say as we are clearing and cleaning i feel a lightness. I too have heard of similar stories re adoption. When we let go miracles happen 🙂

  8. Thank you for the beautiful reminder Suzie. What a great weekend to let go of what’s no longer needed! On that note, off I go to clear some clutter xx

  9. Letting go IS hard. But every time in my life that I’ve let go and welcomed a new path it has always been a terrific decision. My new favorite quote: “When a door closes, another one opens; it’s the hallway between to two that is difficult to maneuver.”

    1. Yes it is and today I have woken up ready to release more stuff as I am feeling empowered by the process. I love “When a door closes, another one opens; it’s the hallway between to two that is difficult to maneuver.” and shared it on my Facebook Page 🙂

  10. I love your beach art Suzie! This post is a real gem ~ letting us know all the reasons why it is so beneficial to simply let go with Love <3 And it is true that it takes greater strength to let go, to risk uncertainty and disapproval from others. Yet what a huge treasure we receive when we do let go!

    1. Thank you Martina, when I read your comment about my beach art I am reminded there is a products here i need to make and share, or even get them as cards.
Yes it is a treasure to let go as I am doing this weekend.
      Love and peace
      Suzie xx
