chocolate Hearts

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”
~ Charles M. Schulz

Chocolate, even organic dark chocolate which is alkaline is not on my eating horizons. It has caffeine, which is not good for my bones.  Carob is okay, just doesn’t have the yumminess of dark chocolate.

Yesterday was Des’s birthday so as a treat I decided to make him some treats. I have made these once before. I shared a picture on Facebook and was asked to share the recipe.

recipe

Ingredients

cocnut oil cacao

I used a heart shaped silicon ice-cube tray I bought from Ikea years ago. This is great as the chocolate doesn’t stick

You can add a variety of ingredients: I added raspberries, organic raisins and freshly shelled macadamias. You could add maca powder, orange rind, ginger, nuts, seeds and sultanas.  I am sure you can think of other tasty morsels you can add.

I put these into the tray before pouring in the mixture

Melt the coconut oil and add the argave or honey. Whisk and add the cocoa powder. Whisk occasionally while pouring into the silicone ice cube tray. Makes 14.  Cool for 30 minutes in the fridge or freezer.

Then turn them out and enjoy.  One at a siting as they are very rich.

  1. I will definitely have to pass this recipe on to my daughter, the baking and sweets queen! These sound absolutely delightful and I love the mix of ingredients! I can see making them surprising just by varying what you put inside!

  2. I do love chocolate and your recipe does sound easy and delicious. Not sure I want to give up real chocolate but I don’t mind sharing my palate with what tastes good.

  3. I’ve been noticing a number of blog posts recently that featured raw cocoa powder. I am starting to become intrigued. Your recipe sounds easy to make, and I love chocolate covered fruit. As I haven’t used agave, I can’t judge how sweet it would be. I enjoy dark chocolate (and have for years, even before it because popular) but I don’t like the very bitter kind.

    1. Hi Alana,

Yes it is so easy compared to other things i make and the result so yummy. I like bitter chocolate. I have used the recipe without sugar and dipped strawberries in and they were yummy too.

You might need to addd 2 tabs of honey or agave for sweetness I think. I used honey as I had run out of agave- make sure you melt the honey and keep stirring otherwise it goes sticky and doesn’t set!

  4. Hmm… ok. Lots of ingredients I would have to hunt down. A don’t tolerate caffeine well and have pre-osteoporosis, but I treat myself to one piece of dark chocolate a night. I don’t like the taste of cacao. I’m on this strange vegan diet until 6pm every day. Works pretty well in curbing my body sugar and cravings. I actually don’t crave sugar or sweets anymore.

    1. Hi Laurie,
You can make it with just 2 if you like bitter chocolate- the coconut oil and the cacao- I find that tastes like 95% dark chocolate. I was doing that- one piece a night until I was advised against it. I am on a high alkaline diet that it very hood for osteo and pre too- Vegan is probably similar.
Have you read Save our bones- that is a program that has great results and the eating plan is alkaline.
